Results from our targets for environmental indicators

We set out to take steps towards a more sustainable future and aim to systematically monitor and report energy consumption, waste and waste costs, as well as the purchase and sale of recycled plastic materials. These figures were monitored from the beginning of the financial year, 1.4.2023.

In terms of waste, we monitor waste costs in relation to net sales, and the target was set at 0.30%. At the end of the financial year, the result was 0.32% of net sales, i.e. waste costs were slightly above the set target. We also monitor the amount of waste (in tonnes of waste) in relation to net sales, and a target of 1.50% of net sales was set for this. At the end of the financial year, the result was 1.31%, which means that the actual amount of waste relative to net sales is lower than targeted. This indicates, among other things, efficient waste management and the personnel's environmental awareness.

Although waste costs did not significantly exceed the target, the result for the amount of waste was better than expected. We will continue monitoring in both areas and work to achieve the targets and improve the efficiency of waste management in the long term.

In electricity consumption, the target was set at 15% of net sales, and it was achieved. We have a strong will to move towards cleaner and more sustainable energy, which is why we use renewable electrical energy.

In district heat consumption (MWh), the target was to achieve a 0.01% ratio of net sales, but the result was 0.007%. Although the result was slightly below the target, it shows a commitment to optimising energy consumption and environmentally friendly practices. For example, in heating and ventilation, we utilise waste heat and heat recovery. Even a small decrease in energy consumption relative to turnover can bring significant savings both environmentally and economically. This provides a good starting point for further development and an opportunity to examine how energy efficiency could be improved in the future.

Our goal is to increase the purchase and sale of recycled materials. We monitor this for four types of plastic materials (ABS, PE, PC, and PMMA). The aim is to have the purchase and sale of recycled material account for 5% of total purchases and sales, promoting a circular economy and reducing the need for new raw materials. We have obtained results for two recycled materials: ABS at 20% and PE at 27% of total purchases and sales.

In the future, recycled materials will be more prominently featured, and the market share of recycled PC and PMMA materials will be increased. Additionally, bio-based materials will be offered as alternatives to current materials, whenever possible. Another goal is to raise awareness of recycled and bio-based materials in the market.

With these goals, we want to demonstrate our commitment to reducing our environmental impact and promoting sustainable development. Open and transparent reporting helps increase environmental awareness and allows us to track our progress toward a more sustainable future.
